Obituary of Susan Lorraine Kulba

Susan Lorraine Kulba, 63, passed away on March 1, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Steve, and beloved daughter, Erin Katya, who will forever cherish her memory.

Born in Montreal on April 10, 1961, Susan spent most of her life in Ottawa, where she built a remarkable career as Executive Architect and Director General at the House of Commons, a role she held with passion and dedication for over 20 years. Her work was more than a profession, she found immense joy in building a team that felt like family and visiting parliaments all over the world, sharing her expertise on heritage restoration.

Beyond her career, Susan was an artist at heart. She found inspiration in the very buildings she worked to preserve, even creating art from the Parliamentary roof, which she lovingly transformed into pieces that were later auctioned for charity. Her creativity and generosity touched many, leaving a lasting impact on both her professional and artistic communities.

Outside of work, Susan found peace and joy at the cottage, a place where she could unwind and connect with nature. She spent countless summers swimming in the lake, enjoying boat rides, and tending to her beloved garden. The cottage was a sanctuary for Susan, where she gathered with family and friends, often around a crackling fire or on the screen porch, sharing laughter and creating lasting memories. It was also a cherished place for her lifelong love of cats—she found joy in watching them explore the outdoors, curling up beside her on the porch, and even bringing them along for gentle boat rides on the lake.

Susan’s life will be celebrated at a private function with her closest family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honour to the Kingston Humane Society or the Nature Conservancy of Canada, supporting causes that were close to her heart.

Though Susan is no longer with us, her legacy is found in the places she helped restore, the art she created, and the deep love she shared with those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her warmth and generosity.
