Obituary of Richard John Cherry
It is with profound sadness that the family of Richard (Dick) Cherry announces his passing on March 7, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family and cherished friend, Carol McInnis, three weeks before his 88th birthday.
Richard was a school principal, musician (guitar, mandolin, ukelele), judo enthusiast (black belt), golfer, bird-watcher, award-winning wood-carver, and former professional hockey player (finished hockey career in Napanee at 83).
Richard was a devoted father, leaving behind his children, Steven (Tina Fasano) and Cristy Robb (Patrick); and his treasured grandchildren, Brianna, Devon, Owen, and Taylor. Survived by his big brother, Don Cherry.
Richard is now reunited with his beloved wife of 55 years, Lillian, and their son, Brian, both of whom he missed dearly.
A private family memorial service has been held to celebrate his remarkable life. If possible, make a donation to the Kingston Humane Society in his memory.
The Cherry and Robb families wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to Carol McInnis and her family—Tracey, Mike, and Mason Ferguson —for their unwavering love and support. Special thanks to Dr. Tom Touzel for his compassionate care and friendship. Thank you to the incredible staff and residents of Cataraqui Heights Retirement Home, and Dick's lifelong friend, Bob Collins.
The family appreciates the support and friendship of Doug Springer, the Springer family, Brenda Mavety, the Kingston Frontenacs, and all of Dick’s hockey teammates in Kingston and Napanee for their camaraderie and friendships throughout the years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cataraqui Cemetery and Funeral Services.
