Roy McNaughton

Obituary of Roy McNaughton

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of F. Roy McNaughton, who left us peacefully at the age of 97 on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Maxville (Dominionville), Ontario, Roy was the youngest beloved son of the late Ebenezer Daniel (Ebbie) and Christy Ann McNaughton.  He is survived by his loving children Garth (Monique), Nancy (Brian), and Sandra (Vern, deceased), and his devoted grandchildren (Emily, Keith, Reid, Cameron), and 6 great-grandchildren; and the daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Madeline Kennedy.

Roy was predeceased by his parents (Ebenezer Daniel and Christy Ann), 5 brothers (Don, Ebenezer, Millan, Harry and Wesley), his cherished wife of 30 years and mother of his three children, Madeline (Maddie) Armstrong (née); and his loving wife of 25 years, Madeline Kennedy (née Tryon), as well as by his son-in-law Vern Burnett and stepson Joe Kennedy.

Those who knew and loved Roy will remember his empathy, modesty, love of good conversation, gentlemanliness, passion for travel, intelligence, intellectual curiosity, and abiding loyalty to family.

Roy dedicated over 44 years to his career at Bell Canada, settling in Ottawa (1949) and later in Kingston (1963). Roy and Maddie were active and faithful members of Kingston’s St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church community. Later, Roy and his second wife Madeline enjoyed many winters with friends in Arizona.  Roy was an avid dancer during, and even after his married life, including at the Thirty Nine Club of Kingston.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. His warmth graced family, friends and acquaintances alike. May his memory be a blessing.

The family would like to extend a special thanks for care and support to the staff of Cataraqui Heights Retirement Residence, the nurses and PSW’s of Repute Home & Health Care and St. Elizabeth Health, and physician Dr. Kate Koester. For those so wishing, donations may be made to dyingwithdignity.ca in Roy’s memory.
