Obituary of Ruby Pearl Goold
In Memory of
Ruby Pearl Goold
May 19, 1934 - June 25, 2025
Ruby Pearl Goold (nee House) passed peacefully on June 25, 2025 at the John M. Parrott Centre in Napanee at the age of 91, after an 11-year journey with Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her sisters Hope Evans and Blanche Short and her brother Reginald House, as well as her three children Ruth Judd, Barry Goold and Marsha Goold, her grandchildren Jeremy Judd and Michael Judd, and numerous nephews and nieces, as well as many friends and extended family members who remember her fondly.
Ruby grew up in Newfoundland and was a determined and independent young woman from the get-go. From a very young age, Ruby had her sights set on becoming a teacher. While studying at Mount Allison University, she met her future husband, Herb Goold, who was studying to become a minister. They were married in the summer of 1958 and spent their lives together until Herb’s passing in 2014.
Her days were kept very busy as a minister's wife, church organist, mother of three, and elementary school teacher (most notably at Mary Gardner School in Chateauguay, Quebec) before retiring in 1992. In addition to teaching and being a mother, she also earned her Bachelor’s degree from McGill University and graduated in 1981 with honours.
Ruby loved to cook and bake and was well-known for hosting the many friends and relatives who came for a visit or an overnight stay. In her retirement, Ruby taught English to new immigrants and was an active member of her church. Above all, she was a caring mother and an amazing grandmother. She devoted her life to helping others and delighted in spending as much time as she could with her two grandsons.
Ruby has been buried next to her husband Herb at the Cataraqui Cemetery in Kingston. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Edith Rankin Memorial United Church, 4080 Bath Road, Kingston. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 1:50 p.m. and the service will begin at 2:00, with a reception to follow.
Donations in Ruby’s memory may be made to the charitable organization of your choice but the Alzheimer Society of Canada (https://alzheimer.ca/en?form=C3_2025), the United Church of Canada Mission and Service fund (https://united-church.ca/donate), and Canadian Feed The Children, now known as Kinvia (https://kinvia.ca), were all near and dear to her heart.
