Obituary of Audrey Sybil MacDougall
Audrey Sybil MacDougall (née Ridgley)
February 14, 1934 – July 18, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Audrey Sybil MacDougall (née Ridgley) on July 18, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born in Ramea, Newfoundland, Audrey carried the warmth and resilience of her roots throughout her life. A proud graduate of The General Hospital of St. John’s, Newfoundland School of Nursing. Audrey’s career culminated in her role as Director of Nursing at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital in Kingston, Ontario, where she led with compassion and integrity.
Audrey was a woman of many passions. She had a deep love of the arts, especially theatre, and was a world traveller who explored Europe, Africa, and Asia. A gracious host, Audrey delighted in bringing people together — whether at Christmas, summertime gatherings, or afternoon bridge games.
A devout member of her church community, Audrey’s faith was a guiding force in her life. She also had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved cats — Jane-Gray, Lara, and Emma — who brought her endless comfort and companionship over the years.
Audrey was predeceased by her loving husband, Mel MacDougall; her parents, Hubert and Lillian Ridgley; and her siblings: Jim Ridgley (Bee), Rex Ridgley (Joyce), Launce Ridgley (Ruth), Evelyn Webber (Weldon), and Margaret Dyke (Ray). She is lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and their families.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Helen Henderson Care Centre and to Dr. Marian Luka for the compassionate care Audrey received.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 24th at 11:30 a.m. at Cataraqui Cemetery (927 Purdy’s Mill Road, Kingston), with refreshments to follow at the Lions Hall (935 Sydenham Road). Please meet at the cemetery office at 11:15am to go in procession to the gravesite.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Audrey’s memory may be made to the Kingston Humane Society, an organization close to her heart.
Audrey lived a life marked by service, grace, and love. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
