Obituary of Sam Clare
Clare, Sam Bernard – Passed peacefully in his 74th year in Kingston on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Dearly-beloved husband and best friend of Catherine Clare and beloved brother-in-law of David Myles. Sam and Cathy were together for 41 years. Brother to Michael, Joanne, and (pre-deceased by) Norman. Missed by Molly. Survived by two children from a previous marriage. Bass player for numerous bands over the years, with the claim to fame of having played with Abernathy Snagnaster, later known as Triumph. Sam was an occasional contributor to The Kingston Whig-Standard. At the time of his death, Sam, an avid history buff, in collaboration with his wife was preparing a history of noteworthy murders in 19th century Ontario.
Sam grew up in Port Credit. He had a sly sense of humour, and was well-liked by his work colleagues in Mississauga and Kingston.
We hope that there is a band awaiting him wherever he goes, and may he never again hear or play “Margaritaville” and “Brown Eyed Girl”.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cataraqui Cemetery and Funeral Services. There will be no visitation or funeral service by family request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kingston Humane Society.
