Obituary of Gary Wayne Lupton
LUPTON, Gary Wayne
With deep sorrow, we announce that Gary Lupton passed away peacefully in his home on January 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Gary was in his 82nd year of a life he loved and lived to the fullest.
Gary was the loving husband of Ann (Groenewegen) for 48 wonderful years. He was the proud father of Jeffrey (Nicola, predeceased), Jennifer Kelly (Jay), Michelle Turner (Barry), and Adam. He was adored by his grandchildren, Kathryn, Rachel, Andrew, Quinn, Liam, Jace, and Kellan.
Gary grew up in Stratford with his brothers, Brian (Suzanne), Bill (predeceased) and his step-siblings, Sharon Rounds (Clarence, predeceased), Bud Fitzgerald (Elaine) and Faye Fitzgerald (Vals). He will be greatly missed by his many cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Alix (Dickson), in 1971; his parents, George and Florence, and step-mother, Marion Lupton.
Gary enjoyed a long career in the newspaper business, reporting on local news and sports. He began at the Beacon Herald in Stratford and later spent 25 years at the Kingston Whig-Standard, where he made many life-long friendships.
He was an avid reader, and there was always a book or newspaper within his reach. He loved watching all sports and enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing hockey. He especially cherished time spent with his family at the cottage every summer.
Gary and Ann shared a deep love for their hobby farm in Joyceville, where they raised their family and lived for 38 years. They found great joy in country living, caring for the land and animals, and celebrating many special events over the years.
In 2020, Gary and Ann moved to Bath, where they spent their summers on the golf course, socializing with friends, new and old, and enjoying retired life.
A service for Gary will be held at St. Linus Church in Bath at 12 noon on January 31, 2026.
A celebration of life will follow the service, from 1-4 pm, at the Loyalist Golf & Country Club in Bath, ON.
