Obituary of Patrick Fabian Whalen-Browne

Patrick (Pat) Whalen-Browne passed away on May 19th 2026 at his home surrounded by family and his beloved dog. Born on September 15th 1954 on Woody Island, Newfoundland, he moved to mainland Newfoundland at age 12 and went off to university at age 15. Settling in Kingston in 1993, he always considered Newfoundland home. He lived a meaningful life and will be remembered for his love of family, big laugh, curiosity and sense of adventure.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen; children, Molly (Maheer), Anna (Nicholas), and Liam; four granddaughters, Lyla, Salma, Eve, and Juliet; and five older siblings (Marguerite, Raymond, Frank, Jack and Mary). He held his family close to his heart and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him best.

Those who were fortunate enough to know Pat will remember his gentle spirit, sense of determination, strength of character and mind, as well as his ability to make others feel heard and valued. He lived a magnificent yet balanced life, marked by great travels and adventures, as well as simple pleasures such as cooking and time at the cottage. He was passionate about exercise and especially loved running (completing 6 marathons, including the Boston Marathon), later in life enjoying cycling holidays with friends. He was a passionate reader and even when he couldn’t see he continued to voraciously consume books he could share with others. Above all, he valued time spent with family and friends, and he took great joy in the company of those he loved. His warmth, humour, and easy conversation made him a welcome presence in every gathering. His influence through his professional life as a psychotherapist helped many, and his legacy is found in the lives he touched. Pat’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the healthcare providers who cared for Pat, especially Drs. Chavlovski, Selbie, and Reid, the providers from Saint Elizabeth’s HealthCare and others who were part of The Leading Project for their compassion and support.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22nd, 2026, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 1:00 pm at St. John the Apostle Church, 94 Patrick Street, interment to follow at Cataraqui Cemetery, with a celebration of life from 2:30 - 5:30 pm at the Tett Centre, Malting Tower.
