Obituary of Margaret Lucille Lane

Margaret Lucille Lane passed away peacefully in Kingston, Ontario on May 27, 2026, at the age of 94, just two weeks short of her 95th birthday. She was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 4, 1931.

Margaret lived a life marked by independence, resilience, and quiet determination. She valued her wide circle of friends and enjoyed socializing and experiencing many travel adventures with them. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — reading, gardening, knitting, and walking in nature. She was also deeply appreciative of the arts and especially enjoyed symphony concerts, theatre productions, and lecture series. She loved sailing, badminton, skiing, and fitness classes. Margaret took pride in her professional work as an administrative assistant in Toronto. Her favourite job was working for the Deputy Minister of Health for Ontario doing a review of administrative practices in nursing homes in the province.

Margaret had a special affection for children and, in later years, found great meaning in volunteering in schools, helping young students learn to read. During her years in Kingston, she also generously contributed her time to several community organizations including the Symphony Book Sale, Hotel Dieu Hospital, the Seniors’ Centre, and the Penitentiary Museum.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents Howard and Iney Lane and will be lovingly remembered by family, dear friends, and caregivers who shared her journey through life. We are especially grateful to the staff and caregivers at Trillium Long-Term Care for the compassion, dignity, and kindness they showed her in her final years. Their care extended far beyond meeting her needs; they brought comfort, warmth, and kindness to her daily life.

A service of remembrance will be held on June 10, 2026, at St. Luke’s Anglican Church (236 Nelson Street, Kingston), at 11:00 a.m.
