Obituary of Joan Elaine Hofman

Joan Elaine (Noel) HOFMAN

May 13th, 1936 – September 11th, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Hofman in Kingston, Ontario, following a brief illness, in her 91st year.

Born and raised in Montreal, Joan married the love of her life, Fred, in 1955, marking the beginning of a lifetime of adventures together. Early in their marriage, Fred’s work brought them to live in West Germany for several years, where they made many lasting memories. Upon their return, Joan served as President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Montreal Children’s Hospital while raising their family in Beaconsfield.  After retiring in Ingleside from a long career with the Bank of Montreal, they moved to Kingston, where Joan served as President of the Kingston Lawn Bowling Club.  Their lifelong passion for travel took them to 45 countries over the years; a passion that’s been passed down to their family.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, Fred; children Sue (Dave), Linda, and Peter (Jaqui); grandchildren Krista, Sean (Claire), Michael (Janet), Ryan (Maria), and Brandon (Kristen); great-grandchildren Keely and Mia; siblings Derek and Dolce; and many extended family members.  Joan’s family brought tremendous joy to her life, and she was so incredibly proud of them all.

At Joan’s request, cremation has taken place. A private interment at Cataraqui Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Joan was inspired by these words from a poem she read and wished to share them with those she loved:

“When you think of me in the future, I want it to be with a smile;
For that was one of many things which made my life worthwhile.

I may no longer be at home, but I’ll think of you every day;
And because we have the bond of love, I’ll never be far away.

So think of my life and not my death, and recall the good times we had.
Then your hearts will soon be full of good memories and not the sad.”
