Obituary of Gary Haggart
It is with tremendous sadness that we share the loss of an exceptional man, our husband and father, Gary Haggart. Gary passed away March 13, 2015 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital at the age of 67. Lovingly remembered by his wife Laurel Hey, his son Owen (fiancée Michelle) and daughter Andrea (Patrick). Predeceased by his father John, Gary leaves his mother Alice and siblings Joyce(Mike), Doug (Sandy), Debra (Dave) brother-in-law Norm (Mandy) and mother-in-law Phyliss, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Gary had many stories to tell of his time on board “The Brig” as a teenager. After graduating from Carleton University, he answered an ad for work at Davies Apiaries in Seeley’s Bay. It turned out to be a perfect fit. He left the honey business to perform his most important role in life as Dad to his two cherished children. He enjoyed the outdoors, his garden, family trips across Canada, travel to culturally different destinations, cooking and hockey – for many years with Terry Wright and the Kingston Leftovers. Gary was passionate about the environment, trains – a convener for many years of Rail-o-Rama – and social equality. He could engage in a discussion on any topic and debate endlessly. You would know from the start where he stood! Please join the family to share stories and memories of Gary on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Harbour Restaurant (53 Yonge St., Kingston) anytime between 2 and 4 p.m. In honour of Gary, and his commitment to children the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the United Way’s Caring for Others or Success by Six. Donations for the training vessel St. Lawrence II-Brigantine Inc. would also be appreciated. As his look-a-like, Red Green would advise: “Keep your stick on the ice.” Arrangements entrusted to CATARAQUI CEMETERY AND FUNERAL SERVICES.
