Obituary of John Freeman

It is with the deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. John Freeman. John was a friend to many but the beloved son of John (Barney) and Rose Freeman (predeceased), and Step-Mom, Nancy Freeman who thought of John as one of her own. He leaves behind his sister, Barbara Chee (Michel Chee) and their 4 children (Michael, Carolyn, Robert and William) and his adopted sister, Denise Stockley (Andre Bouchard) and his godchildren, Mason and Merralees.John lived life to the fullest and cared deeply about people. Each person who met John has a story of how he made a real difference in their life, just by being him, sometimes gently telling a story to redirect or just telling it like it was when a person needed to hear it. He was a Professor in the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University who was recognized locally, nationally, and internationally for his work. He was in his element with his graduate students and cherished the time he spent with each of them and cared about their success and well-being, well beyond his time with them. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday August 11 at 1:00 pm at his church, Grace United Church, 120 Pine Street, Gananoque with a reception to follow.John was generous with both his time and money, in lieu of flowers, in his memory please consider donating to a cause you hold dear in his memory or volunteer your own time to an organization in need. Donations can also be made in his memory to the Intensive Care Unit at the Kingston General Hospital where he spent 37 days – the ICU team provided exceptional care and support, as John fought a fight with pancreatitis that he could not win, and died on his own terms surrounded by those who loved him dearly. Arrangements entrusted to CATARAQUI CEMETERY AND FUNERAL SERVICES.
