Obituary of Margaret Carolyn MacDonald

After a courageous nine month battle with cancer, Carolyn passed away at St. Mary’s of the Lake on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the age of 71.Beloved wife and soul partner for 15 years of Archie Zagrodney. Predeceased by her parents Neil and Margaret MacDonald, and her brother, Donald. Survived by siblings Barbara, William, Bruce, Mary (Jack) Demelker, and Ruth (Paul) Guy and many relatives in Canada and the United States.She will be greatly missed by her stepchildren, Mark (Sharon) Zagrodney and Tanya (John) Morgan, her nieces: Leanne and Michelle, her nephews: Ralph and Mark, her grandchildren: Christopher, Zackery, Jeffery, Emily and Daniel, and also by her great- granddaughters: Alaina Mae, Alesha and Journey.She was born and raised on the family farm East of Kingston, attended KCVI and Frontenac Secondary Schools. She became a nature lover and this continued all her life. She travelled extensively and especially loved going on ocean cruises of the Caribbean and South America with Archie and Mac and Mary Steinburg.Carolyn was a public school teacher for 6 years and a protor at Queens University for 37 years. She dedicated 37 years to her labour of love as organist and choir director for St. John’s Presbyterian Church on Middle Road. She served faithfully as an Elder from February 2005 to September 2014, convenor of the church turkey supper from 1997 to 2013 and was a dedicated member of the ladies aid.In keeping Carolyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place.The family wishes to thank all of the friends, family and neighbours who provided their support to make Carolyn’s passing as comfortable as possible. The family will always remember the caregivers for their dedication, kindness, and compassion.A Celebration of Carolyn’s Life will take place at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 2360 Middle Road on Saturday, March 28, 2015. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm followed by a service at 1pm.In lieu of flowers, Carolyn wished donations to be made to a charity of the giver’s choice. Arrangements entrusted to CATARAQUI CEMETERY AND FUNERAL SERVICES.
