Obituary of Elizabeth Rosalie Roughton

It is with deep sadness that Rosalie’s family announces her death on May 20, 2022, in her 90th year.

Rosalie moved with her family from Kitchener to Toronto as a young girl. She attended Branksome Hall and was a graduate of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy program at the University of Toronto.

She was predeceased by her parents, E. Harvey and Olive McKinney (Laird) and by her loving husband Stephen, to whom she was married for 66 years. Rosalie met Stephen, the love of her life, when they were both teenagers at Taylor Statten Camp; they were married in 1954. She dearly loved their family and was happiest when spending time with them and many lifelong friends at their cottage on Buck Lake.

Her passion was figure skating and she was involved at various levels from the local Kingston Skating Club to national and international events. An avid gardener, she was particularly fond of roses!

Rosalie is survived by those she loved so dearly: 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren: Douglas (Mary) of Brockville and children: Micaela; Jonathan (Touwanna-Shell) and daughter Nokomis; Amanda Black (Justin) and sons Devon & Ronon; Heather Hakim (Harry) of Newmarket and sons Stefen (Michelle) and son Caiden and twins Brooklyn & Lennox; Erik (Alanna) and sons Troy, Cassius & Nikolai; Andrew (Wendy) of Boston MA and sons Benjamin (Tash) and William; and Stephanie (Johan Rehnstrom) of Uppsala Sweden. Rosalie was very proud of each and every one and she meant the world to all of us!

She will be fondly remembered by her sisters in-law Helen and Jean Roughton of Kingston; Donalda Secor, daughter of her cousin Donald Lorimer and Penny; and Cynthia Carlisle, daughter of her dear friends Patti and John.

Our family would like to gratefully acknowledge and thank Carrie D'Avignon and Chelsea Shaw of Saint Elizabeth Health Care for the loving care they provided to our mother.

Rosalie will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known and loved her. Fare thee well Rosalie, may stars shine bright upon thy journey.

In accordance with Rosalie's wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service.
