Obituary of Eleanor Kathleen Einarson

In Memory of Eleanor Kathleen (Taylor) Einarson

A lifetime of love, devotion, and friendship.

Passed away in Kingston Ontario in her 94th year, April 6, 2023.

Originally from Athens, Ontario, Eleanor’s original aspirations of following in her grandmother’s fashion design footsteps evolved after she graduated from the KGH School of Nursing in 1951. It was while working as a nurse that Eleanor met her devoted and loving husband, Dawson Wray Einarson MD (1952) (deceased 2006), and their 55-year marriage resulted in decades of treasured memories while raising their family.

Much loved and admired mother of Susan (Neil), Ruth (Bryne), Martha (Dave), Elisabeth (Roger, deceased), Margaret, Sarah, and Jeffrey (Julie) and very special grandmother to 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Eleanor was a proud member of the Kingston Medical Wives the KGH Auxiliary, volunteering in several different capacities and raising funds for projects close to her heart. As co-founder of the Kingston Symphony Association’s fundraising Nearly New Sale, Eleanor also proudly volunteered for many years at the association’s Opportunity Shop. Her love of children was extended to countless newborns and premature babies for whom she knit and donated comforting beanies and mittens. Eleanor had a wonderful eye and appreciation for art, with a special interest in supporting local and Canadian artisans, which was nurtured by her work at The Brock Street Gallery. In later years, she enjoyed immersing herself in a good book, nestled by the fire and her picture window. She cherished time spent with family, whether traveling, on holidays, or at Little Bluff Island on Charleston Lake. Eleanor’s talents in the kitchen are missed but are still enjoyed by generations who have benefitted from her sharing treasured recipes, baking tips, and skills.

Trusted to the care of Cataraqui Cemetery and Funeral Services. A memorial service will be held for Eleanor at St. George’s Cathedral on Thursday, April 13th at 1:00pm, followed by interment at Cataraqui Cemetery with a reception to follow. Donations in memory of Eleanor can be directed to St. George’s Cathedral or the KGH Auxiliary.
