Obituary of Kenneth Robert Kirkwood
It is with profound sorrow that the family of Kenneth Robert (Bob) Kirkwood announce his passing on April 28, 2023, at Providence Care Hospital in Kingston, Ontario.
Predeceased by his wife Mary Elizabeth Kirkwood (nee Warren), sister-in-law Ruth Ann Kerr (nee Warren), and his parents of Peterborough, Ontario, Kenneth and Gladys Kirkwood, Bob is survived by his children Scott Kirkwood and Jennifer Gray (nee Kirkwood) with spouse Darryn, his wife Lois Thomas and step-daughters Stacey Muller with spouse Kirk, Sarah Dwane with spouse Dave, his brother Kevin Kirkwood with spouse Bonnie, his brother Gord Kirkwood with spouse Jane, his brother-in-law George Kerr, and sisters-in-law Susan MacRae with spouse Donald, and Cindy Cowin with spouse Don.
The memory of Bob Kirkwood will also live on through his grandchildren Sadie and Cody Gray, his step-grandchildren Abby and Riley Dwane, Kira Muller, Brittney Shubat with spouse Michael, Kourtney Campbell with spouse Brock, Bryelle Malone with spouse Brad, and his step-great-grandchildren Brinley, Everley and Kade Campbell, and Banks and Cali Malone, and by his beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Born in Peterborough, Ontario, on January 12, 1947, Bob Kirkwood studied engineering at Ryerson University, and spent most of his career at Northern Telecom and Bosal Canada in Kingston, Ontario.
An integral member of the Kingston community, Bob Kirkwood volunteered with many organizations, most notably assisting in the formation of the Greater Kingston Hockey Association’s AAA level program, for which he coached and mentored players for many, many years. He also volunteered his coaching and team management skills for the Kingston Kodiaks Hockey Association, Kingston Township Soccer, and most recently as a volunteer organizer for the Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day ceremonies, and ‘Bob’s Breakfast’ as provided by Inverary United Church.
An avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast, Bob enjoyed every opportunity to be out on his boat on Sydenham and Loughborough Lake, with evenings spent playing his guitar, or making family memories around the bonfire.
A devoted father, husband, brother, and friend, he will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege to share in his remarkable life.
An open visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at Trousdale Funeral Home, located at 4374 Sydenham Mill, in Sydenham, Ontario. The funeral service, to be followed by a reception, will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., at Inverary United Church, located at 4681 Latimer Road, in Inverary, Ontario. A private burial service will be held for immediate family only, prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family welcomes donations to the Inverary United Church Benevolent Fund, or the Kingston General Hospital Cancer Centre.
