Obituary of Betty 'Joanne' Jeanette Board

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Joanne Board. She died peacefully at

Providence Manor on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at the age of 78. Joanne will be deeply missed by her

dear daughter Julie Brown (James), loving sister Susan Browning (Bruce), adoring grandchildren Matthew and Justin Brown, and her nephews and nieces and their families, Brian Wither (Christy), John Como, Donna Jarvie (Mike), Terra Oragunye (Anthony), and Sean Browning (Chantelle). Joanne was predeceased by her beloved son Jeffrey Taylor (Robin) and sister Carol Wither.

Joanne was born February 25, 1945 and raised in Kingston, Ontario. She attended elementary school in a one room schoolhouse in Pittsburgh Township and later attended Frontenac High School. After finishing school, Joanne devoted her time to caring for her home and her young family, and worked part time providing home health care services through ParaMed.  At the age of 40, Joanne made the courageous decision to go back to school, and obtained her Health Care Aide Certificate.  She was employed by Providence Manor for the remainder of her working years, and in her later years became a resident there.  She was like one of their family, and her family was told that she will be very missed there.

Joanne loved music and dancing. Her favourite songs were hits from the 50s, and she was a huge fan of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Joanne was also very artistic and enjoyed expressing her natural talents through her penmanship, painting, flower arranging, decorative crafts and ceramics. Everything she touched turned into something beautiful.  She also embraced the outdoors through camping, and honed her talents in the kitchen to become an excellent cook. Though Joanne loved many things, nothing could compare to love and adoration that she had for her children.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Providence Manor for their many years of care and unwavering compassion.

We will all miss her loving heart and beautiful smile most of all.

There will be a graveside service for Joanne on Friday, October 6th at Cataraqui Cemetery.  Please contact the cemetery for more information.
