Obituary of Reginald James Hood

7 September 1937 - 15 January 2024

Reginald “Jim” Hood was born to Reginald Hood Sr. and Reine Oudot in Sintaluta, SK. Jim grew up on his father’s farm who worked a section of land west of Wolseley, SK. While attending Wolseley High School he met his future wife Eleanor Ostlund.  After high school Jim moved to Regina where he worked at Coop Oil Refinery for 15 years. He would marry Eleanor in 1958 and raise three children. Taking night classes, Jim studied accounting and completed the requirements to become a Registered Industrial Accountant. He developed professionally by holding accounting positions in the University of Saskatchewan/Regina business office. Later he held senior finance positions at various crown corporations and agencies including VP Finance for Saskatchewan Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO). He retired in 1999 as Assistant VP Finance & Admin for Crown Investments Corporation Asset Management Division.  One colleague & friend describes Jim as “a classic old world gentleman, respected, and admired by all his colleagues.”  Post retirement, Jim and Eleanor followed their children to Ontario. Jim was an avid gardener. He spent many summer hours immaculately trimming and cutting. In his early retirement these gardens were substantial. Later they became progressively more modest. In January 2021, Jim suffered a stroke which left him in a wheelchair. Still though, the gardener, fisherman, curler, junior hockey fan persevered but on 15 January, Jim fell into a deep sleep and passed away peacefully. Jim is predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Hood, and a brother Henry. He is survived by his three children Greg Hood, Sheldon Hood, and Wendy Hood-Lusk, brothers Bill and Kaery, and five grandchildren.
