Robert L. Fraser posted a condolence
Monday, February 19, 2024
Dear David, I recall fondly Paul as a first-year lecturer in 1966-67 (with Ezio and Paul Henneman), his second-year course in British history (1967-68) with Bert McCready, and the tempestuous seminar of 1968-69, which was probably the most enjoyable course of my university career (BA, MA, PhD) in which Paul coined the phrase, appropriate in its specific application, "non-paper." He was an integral part of my discovery of the best elements of academia and I shall always be appreciative. I offer my condolences on your loss. Robert L Fraser (class of 1970).

It is with great sadness that we, as members of The Bath Gardening Club, have learned of the passing of Paul Fritz. On several occasions in the past, Paul was kind enough to attend our meetings as a speaker and kept us enthralled with his wit, his vast storage of information and his never-ending patience with our questions. Paul and David were generous enough to invite us to spend an afternoon at their property in Athens and, as expected, they charmed us with their stories, tours of the property and lemonade and snacks. Paul had developed an all-natural, granular fertilizer to use specifically on his amazing roses. He was generous enough to share that formula with us to use as a fundraiser on the condition that we not share the formula with anyone until such time as we no longer wished to use it to the benefit of our club members. To this day, The Bath Gardening Club holds an annual “Fritz Mix Fertilizer” fundraiser, mixing and selling bags of Fritz Mix to the communities around us. Paul has, indeed, left us a legacy and will be remembered for years to come for his charm, sense of humour and his generosity of spirit.

Dearest David:
Our hearts are broken, realizing we will no longer hear Paul speak his wisdom & knowledge
in his iconic witty & captivating style.
He was the reason I loved going to the Antique Society meetings, catching up
and just tapping into his never-ending stories of travel and antique hunting.
Moe & I will miss him so and hope to see you in near future, to expand upon our stories & share in his love of life.
Thinking of you and feeling your pain at this time.
Love
Moe & Janice

Don & I were shocked to read Paul's obit & send our sincere sympathy to David.
The obit mention of the Athen;s Rose Garden brought to mind a wonderful afternoon spent admiring those beauties with Paul & David & other friends. Memories of our travel adventures together also comes to mind, especially Istambul overlooking the Black Sea.
Hoping to see you David in near future.
Sincerely Don & Marilyn Braden

My sympathy to you, David for the loss of Paul. I have so very much enjoyed our conversations over the last few years. There was always something serious to discuss and we could find common ground. As neighbours in our building I look forward to many more such conversations with you and will treasure the rose geranium that Paul gave me last fall. It is looking healthy! Margaret Hughes

Our sincere condolences to David who is very much in our thoughts. Paul and David welcomed me very warmly and generously when I arrived at McMaster in the autumn of 1988, the beginning of a treasured friendship that lasted long after I benefitted enormously from Paul’s enthusiastic supervision of my MA dissertation. Me and my family are so very fortunate to have so many special moments with Paul and David to reflect on and cherish.

I was saddened to read in today's newspaper of the death of Dr. Fritz. As a mature student returning to school it was Dr. Fritz's first year history course at McMaster that prompted me to pursue that discipline as a major, a decision I have never regretted. I will always remember his quiet, authoritative and concise lectures as an undergraduate and his objective assessment of my efforts as a graduate student. My condolences to his survivors.
Chris Phillips.

To David and to Paul’s family,
Paul was one of the most incredible and interesting people that I had the pleasure of calling a friend. From my first visit to Oakleaf, to dinners at your home in Kingston, to the day we ran into each other in downtown Ottawa, I have so many fond memories.
I send all of my love and support at this difficult time
