Marjorie Marriott

Obituary of Marjorie Elizabeth Marriott

Marjorie “Marni”(Carl Frayn) Marriott passed in her sleep on August 26th at the age of 88.

Beloved mother of Cheryl and mother-in-law to Chris, treasured grandmother to Brian and Erin.

Born in Kingston, Ontario, she moved to Toronto in 1967.  In 1983 she relocated to Whitehorse. After many years in the Yukon she moved to Kamloops BC and then returned to Kingston briefly. As soon as her grandchildren were born she moved to Morrisburg to be closer to them. In 2017 she finally moved to Ottawa so she could see her family more often.

Although she taught primary school and special needs children in her earlier years, if asked later, she would say she was a yoga teacher. She embraced the lifestyle and had her own studio where she taught classes and hosted seminars. For more than 40 years, she touched many lives with her caring and understanding nature, focusing on the benefits of the practice itself, and not just the physical exercise.

Her life was full of love and service mixed with a quick sense of humour and a deep spiritual faith. Her joy spread readily to anyone she encountered and she was a loyal friend to those who knew her.

Even in her final days, caregivers commented that she always had a warm smile for them and a word of thanks even in her most difficult moments. They also commented that she was fiercely independent and not always realistic about any limitations she might be facing. According to her, if she felt like it, she might just pop out of bed and “get out there to climb that tree.”

A Graveside Service will be held at Cataraqui Cemetery on Thursday September 12th at 2:30 pm.  For those attending please meet at the cemetery office (927 Purdy’s Mill Road, Kingston) at 2:15.
