Obituary of Thomas Andrew Groat

Tom died peacefully at Fairmont Home in Glenburnie on Saturday October 5^th, 2024, aged 93 years. He was predeceased in 2023 by his wife of 69 years Constance Ann (née Petersen) Groat. Tom is survived by his son Lee Andrew Groat and daughter Stacey Joline Turkeli, his grandchildren Cole Carleton and Tiegan Orser, and his great grandchildren Dallis and Colt Orser. Tom was born and grew up in Niagara Falls, the only son of Andrew Mowat and Elizabeth McAdam (née Potter) Groat. He attended Acadia University and Nova Scotia Technical College (later merged into Dalhousie University), where he obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering in 1955. Tom and Connie subsequently moved to Kingston, where Tom worked for Ontario Hydro, retiring as District Supervising Engineer, Protection and Control, in 1993. They will be laid to rest at Christ Church Cataraqui. The family extends special thanks to Gail “Cookie” Babcook and the staff of Fairmount Home for their compassion and professionalism. In lieu of flowers and in honour of Tom's love of dogs, memorial donations may be made to a Humane Society of your choice.
