Obituary of Siebrigje Catharina van der Werf

On January 14, 2025 Siebrigje (Siepi) Catharina van der Werf passed away at home surrounded by family.

Siepi was born in Leewarden, Friesland, Netherlands on October 18, 1946 to Sietse and Elizabeth van der Werf, their youngest child. She was predeceased by her brother Fred in 2023 and Willy in 2024.

Siepi is survived by her husband, James King, daughter Joanne (David MacDonald with children Grace, Annie and Olivia) and son, Sietse (Alix Carr-Harris with Reacher and Scout). She is survived by her brother Sjoerd (Alma) and sister Vronie.

 

After immigrating to Vancouver in 1966, and then a brief period in Montreal, she moved to Pictou, Nova Scotia where she founded and operated Village Flair Fabrics for 15 years. Later, she returned to British Columbia to reunite with her siblings.  In 2000, Kingston became Siepi’s new home. She certified as a PSW and supported clients in Kingston for 6 years. In retirement, she became a fitness instructor with the Kingston Seniors’ Centre and the VON. In recent years, Siepi channeled her creative energy into painting. She was both incredibly creative and compassionate.

 

The funeral will be held at Christ Church Cataraqui on Saturday, February 8th at 2pm with reception to follow in Gibson Hall. Interment will happen at a later date.
