Obituary of Walter Weekes

Walter Weekes of Kingston, Ontario formerly of Montreal Quebec, and Four Roads, St. Philip, Barbados.It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle at Providence Care Hospital – Palliative Care Unit, Kingston, Ontario on November 11, 2021.Walter was born in Barbados West Indies and was a former Police Officer, he immigrated to Canada and settled in Montreal, Quebec, then Kingston, Ontario where he worked as a Correctional Officer for Corrections Canada until retirement. Walter was a kind, gentle man who always greeted you with a smile. He loved his family dearly and we will miss him. We know that he is safe in the arms of Jesus. May he rest in peace.Walter is the son of the late Lillian and Zaccheus Weekes. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Eleanor “Ellie” Strachan-Weekes. He will be deeply missed by his children, Sheldon, Sandra (Glendon), Kurt and Clive. Grandfather of Aleisha, Andrea and Amelia and great-grandfather of Maya. Brother of Waple Jeremiah (George), Erla Wedderburn (Sam Sr.), the late Enid Taylor Evans, Eudora and Hilda Weekes, Olga Brathwaite, Daphne Harding, Inez Gittens, Arnold Whittaker and Rita Yearwood. Uncle of George Weekes (Omrel), Heather Taylor Agard (Richard), Louis Brathwaite, Tony Jeremiah, Alwyn Gittens, Claire Weekes – Goring (USA), The Hon. Justice Michelle Weekes, Shelly-Ann Husbands, The Rev. Stephanie-Ann Wedderburn, Samuel Wedderburn Jr. and many others. Brother-in-law of Jean Pegus (Isaac), Idalette John (Carlyle), Jerry Strachan (Elise) and Sereta Lindsay. Cousin of Carmen Crichlow, Vivian Garrett and Shirley Greenidge. As per Walter’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a private graveside ceremony held at a later date. A special thank you to the amazing nurses and Doctors at Providence Care Hospital – Palliative Care Unit. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Parkinson’s Foundation of Canada would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to CATARAQUI CEMETERY AND FUNERAL SERVICES.
