Obituary of Marion Atack

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Marion Lois Atack (Lankin) at home on November 2, 2017 in her 91st year.Loved wife of Dan Atack for 68 years, loving mother of Elizabeth (Peter), Diane (Brian), Barb (Rich) and Dan (Elizabeth). Dear grandmother to Kathryn, Janet, Kelly, Lisa, Jessie, Andrew, Willem, Gillian and Jakob. Great-Grandmother to Thomas, Dryden, William, Emily, Carter and Evelyn.Marion spent her early years in Oakville, the youngest of four children of Elizabeth and Albert Ballard Lankin. Anxious to leave the little town of Oakville she headed to Queen’s to study chemistry and biology and there she met the love of her life for 70 years, Dan Atack. After graduation she was a chemist for Ferro Enamels in Oakville but not for long as she was married and left for Bathurst, New Brunswick with husband Dan. After two years she moved back to Kingston where eventually Dan became President of Dyeco Limited.Four wonderful children arrived over the years. Marion was a stay at home mom, volunteering at Kingston General Hospital for over 50 years for which the government of Ontario awarded her a provincial life membership in the hospital auxiliaries of Ontario. She took up many crafts including pottery and silver jewelry making. Many of her paintings are hung in her family’s homes. Over the years, Marion loved curling, tennis and golfing at Cataraqui Golf and Country Club where she was a member for almost 70 years.Dan and Marion travelled the world and Marion chose the most interesting trips: ballooning over the desert, a helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon, riding a camel in the Sahara, and rafting in Alaska. With age, she played more bridge and went to bridge tournaments with Dan. She had a wonderful life thanks to her husband, family and friends. She will be missed by all.A Celebration of Marion’s Life will be held Monday, November 6, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, Marion requested donations be sent to St. Thomas Anglican Church, 130 Lakeview Avenue, Kingston, ON K7M 3T5. Arrangements entrusted to CATARAQUI CEMETERY AND FUNERAL SERVICES.
