My mother Pat, who moved away from the Ottawa/Kingston area, was a first cousin to Jimmy's mother Mary, and on two occasions when we were seven or eight he and I were sent off to play together while they visited. We were the same age, and got along so well that even now I feel sure we'd have been best friends if we'd lived near. I was just telling Helen, another of Mary's first cousins, what fond memories I have of those two days - one of them racing around on the lawns at the base in Kingston, the other in an Ottawa museum where we were separated from our mothers and got hopelessly lost! I found him to be a confident, resourceful, unflappable person who was lots of fun to be around. Looking him up now to see this sad news I feel all the more grateful for my memories of him. I'm sorry there weren't more, but glad to know that he had a wonderful life with many loved ones.
