Obituary of Edgar James Mills

Passed away peacefully surrounded by family after an 8 year valiant struggle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years Dorothy Jean Mills (Gile), his son and daughter-in-law Brent James Mills and Gilda Theresa DiCola Mills, his two grandchildren Fiona Theresa Mills and Peter James Mills. Survived by a sister Wilma and a brother Raymond. Predeceased by his only daughter Janey Suzanne Mills in a tragic motor vehicle accident in October 1990. Also predeceased by brothers Alan, Leslie, Arthur, Garnet, Harold, Bud, and sister Helen. Will be missed by many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States.Edgar grew up on a farm near Bruce Mines in Northern Ontario. He obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees at Queen’s University and the University of Toronto. Edgar was a respected teacher and vice principal with the Scarborough Board of Education for 30 years until retirement in 1985. He spent many happy retirement years in Unionville, the Rideau Lakes and Kingston with pastimes such as stained glass, gardening and most importantly travelling with Dorothy and his family. A true gentleman in every respect, he will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank the Gibson family and the wonderful caregivers at the Helen Henderson Care Centre who cared for Edgar for the last 3 years.Visitation will be held at JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 10:00am to 10:50am. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home at 11:00am. Reception will follow in the James Reid Reception Centre. Interment will be held at Cataraqui Cemetery, 927 Purdy’s Mill Road at 1:30pm, please meet at the cemetery office at 1:30pm to go in procession to the gravesite.Donations in memory of Edgar can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society.
