Obituary of Larry John Samuel Hooper

Surrounded by the love of his family, Larry passed away at KGH after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Larry was stubborn strength; pain was a constant companion for most of his life, but he remained optimistic. Even during the darkest of times; throughout this journey, he always found a way to crack a smile or tell a joke to lighten the mood.Larry is predeceased by his parents Samuel Mayo and Nora Bernice (nee Heppell) Hooper. He is survived by his wife Geri (nee LeBlanc). He loved and was very proud of his wonderful children, Dan (Laurie) and Denise (John) and was the beloved Papa to Sierra, Rhianna, Lauren and Teagan. Larry is also survived by his brother Bob (Sharon) and sisters Sue (Tom) and Nancy (Bruce), sister-in-law Dianne (Tom), brothers-in-law Rejean and Richard (Joanne) LeBlanc, nephews Robert, Thomas, Steven, Mitchel, Eric, Joey and nieces Kathy, Melissa and Samantha. To big brother Bob and sister-in-law Sharon for their caring visits and support, to little sister Nancy for her devotion, and all of his family who travelled to visit him and took part in this grueling journey with us, we thank you sincerely.Larry cherished all of his family. He loved animals and nature, was an avid fisherman, and was always ready for a good game of cribbage and poker. Our thanks and deep appreciation to the Palliative Care Team (LIHN) St. Elizabeth Health Care, KMAR, Quinte Rehab Physio, VON, HOSPICE and all the dedicated PSW’s and nurses who provided care for him at home. Your compassion and care helped to keep him in the comfort of his own home as long as possible and was so very much appreciated by Larry and his family. Special thanks to “Lady Marion, PSW”, and nurses Kaleigh and Marg. Thanks to his friend Jeff for the friendship and the many card games, and to great neighbours Violet, Dave and Sue. Your kindness will not be forgotten.Special thanks to: Dr. Schultz and associates of the Family Medicine Centre, Dr. Biagi and staff at the Cancer Centre, Dr. Harle, and Dr. James of Palliative Care KGH, Dr. Srivastava (Dr. Sid), nurse Candice and Internal Medicine Staff, and all the wonderful doctors and nurses on the 9th and 10th floors at KGH for their kind care and compassion. Finally, we appreciate all the kind and comforting words offered to us at this time.A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
