Sorry to read of the passing of Michael. Mike and l had a great working relationship. We shared the same desire to make the educational climate of Barrhaven a place where children enjoyed their time at school and the staff were appreciated for all their efforts. The motto "Aim for Compassion not Perfection" was surely Mike's. It is good to have Valentine with you during this difficult time. Take Care Catherine Glenn&Donna

Sorry to read of Mike's passing Catherine. Mike and I had a wonderful time working together at Barrhaven P. S. It was a great when you and Mike got together. Although we worked very hard it was fun because of our belief that we were educating children. The motto "aim for compassion not perfection" was Mike's for sure. It is fortunate that you have Valentine to help you through this difficult time. Take care Catherine! Glenn &Donna

What a beautiful tribute to a truly one of a kind man. Uncle Mike was the life of the party, the kind word when you needed one, the stern hand when you were about to go down the wrong path and always there for you. He was many things to many people and will be deeply missed by all. I will be forever grateful for all the memories and time we spent together. All my love, Erin

Dear Catherine, We met the Roberts when we lived on Deacon Street, just around the corner from where the Roberts lived. Usually memories from our childhood are some the most treasured. When we relocated from Deacon Street in 1956, I lost touch with the Roberts, other than occassionally meeting Bev at Tim Hortons! We did have a thoroughly enjoyable "mini-reunion" at your St. Lawrence River cottage. In our youth we had "neighbourhoods" and we made the most of it. We played at City Park in the summer, on Queens property any time, and also in the streets--until the street lights came on! Perhaps the best memory of our childhood was when, Mike's dad, Mr. Roberts, piled a bunch of neighourhood kids [including my late sister Pat] in the old Packard a took us for a picnic to St. Lawrence Beach. Mike's career choice and subsequent sucess therein, does not surprise me. Another memory which defines Mike, Joan and Beverly, was always a genuine smile of recognition whenever we met, and the remembering of the good times. PETER AND ELAINE SHEPPARD

Dear Catherine, I know you will miss Mike terribly - it is so hard to let go of the really good ones. And Mike was one of those - a FINE, witty, considerate, warm hearted, compassionate man. It was my pleasure and honour to work (and retire) with him at Meadowlands. As an educator, and, from the beginning, it was clear to me that he truly 'liked' children. He connected with them in a personal way, knowing their names and having a cheerful or humorous quip for them when he saw them in the halls. In his dealings with staff, he supported and protected us. He knew intuitively how to bring and keep us together in spite of our disparate teaching styles. He was a caring leader, a man full of humanity and lacking in hubris. I admired and respected him, and, more importantly, liked him for who he was - a PRINCE of a man. Sincere condolences, Nancy

Sorry Catherine for your loss. It was a great day when you and Mike got together and it was sure a benefit to the Barrhaven Staff. After reading the Obit. many fond memories of Mike and you at Barrhaven came to me. "Aim for compassion not perfection"was Mike's motto. Mike and l had a tremendous bond. We enjoyed working together, much laughter and fun but always realizing our important role in educating children. Donna and l were unaware of the difficult illness that struck Mike. It is wonderful that you have Valentine during this difficult time. Take Care . Glenn & Donna

My deepest sympathy to you on the loss of a very special man. Mr. Roberts was my favourite teacher of all time. I was blessed to have him for 3 years at Richmond Public School. We were blessed to have him come to our Grade 1 50th Reunion. He taught me to persevere through some of my limitations. As long as you tried your best, he was happy. I'll always remember that twinkle in his eyes when he smiled. Rest In Peace Mike Roberts. You deserve it !!

What a wonderful tribute to a dear man. Our journey through life, has blessed us with knowing and loving some very special people we call family. From the moment we met Mike and Catherine, many years ago, we knew they were something special. Over the years we shared so many of life's pivotal moments together whether we lived next door to each other or beyond. Our dear friend Mike was the kindest, most fun loving person with a contagious smile and wonderful sense of humour. We miss him and he will forever be in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with Catherine and all who knew and loved him.

Dearest Catherine: We will never forget Michael, your cherished hubby and best friend. We know how difficult this journey was for you both. We loved him too. We loved that whenever we asked how he was doing, he usually said, "I'm doing great" I am really well!". He would say this to give us comfort when he knew how challenging this disease was for him. He said this many times during his last hospitalization when we knew he was fearful. He wanted us to feel how grateful he was for our presence, for our concern. How he struggled all day every day for a relaxed and deep breath. Despite his frustration, he tried to alleviate the worry we all had for him. He was religious to his Inhaler and medication regime. He wanted so to live longer for him, for you, for us. I hope and pray that he has found peace. I know that he was created for greatness, He made a great difference in so many young people's lives. I know that God is absolutely crazy about him. He did his best. I think the angels welcomed him with a heavenly smile ... and he smiled back.
